Poisonous Frequencies is a sort of power trio, unexpectedly formed in 2014. Federsel, Petr Vrba andDidi Kern go berserk mixing rock, noise and free improv.
Petr Vrba is discovering the possibilities of electrified trumpet, disguised as electric guitar and Tomáš Procházka aka Federsel is continuing in his search for the most awful electric guitar sound. Didi Kern beats the drum.
Didi Kern appears mainly as a musician in rock, improvised- and electronic music. Playing the drums since childhood, starting in rural marching bands. Since the 90s he is best known for his contributions in bands like Bulbul or Fuckhead; he is founding member of broken.heart.collector and plays with musicians like Philipp Quehenberger, Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Georg Graewe, Franz Hautzinger etc.
Federsel is a stage name of Tomáš Procházka, Prague based musician, improviser, sound artist and performer. He works with field recordings, media archeology, all kinds of electric and acoustic instruments as well as purely electronic systems, mostly based on analog electronics. In his solo work uses feedbacks, electromagnetic interference and various parasitic sounds. He performs no input mixing board, prepared guitar and amplified objects or works with various found media as well as instruments, usually not used the correct way. As a guitar player, he is notorious for his annoying sound, taking inspiration fromArto Lindsay’s “guitar skronk”.
He is founder of theatre company HANDA GOTE research & development and play with bands B4, Gurun Gurun, Federsel&Mäkelä, Wabi Experience and also performs solo under second family name – Federsel. He is founder of Wakushoppu concert series, Prague monthly meeting of non idiomatic improvizers. On his own blog Endemit Archives he tries to collect pieces from local deep underground, freak-out, outsider music, plain-weird music, all kinds of antimusic activities and strictly-home-recording audio. In 2014, together with his colleague Pasi Mäkelä, he launched microlabelMETEORISMO – base for iconoclastic music projects.
His unrelenting explorations of non-idiomatic improvisation using trumpets, clarinet, vibrating speakers, egg cutters etc., made him one of the most active experimental musicians in Prague these days. His most intensive collaboration arose from meeting with American musician/composer George Cremaschi(doublebass, electronics) with whom they established Prague Improvisation Orchestra, Los Amargadosduo, an international dance-visual-music project Arthuur etc. In 2013 they released “Villa K” album and 2014 “Los Amargados with Susanna Gartmayer”, limited MC with comics. In 2010 Petr became one of the founding members of improvisation ensemble IQ+1 which released in 2011 highly acclaimed CD “tváří v tvář” and in 2013 IQ+1 (released by Polí5), album which was nominated for Czech Vinyla Prize 2013. In 2011 he constituted Yanagi duo with Korean experimenter Ryu Hankil (alarm clock, typewriters). A year later they released their first album “clinamen” waiting for its second album to be released in Korea.
During past years he started and still continues many projects. Among others Petr has played with musicians likeTiziana Bertoncini, Xavier Charles, Isabelle Duthoit, Kai Fagaschinski, Franz Hautzinger, Chris Heenan, Susanna Gartmayer, Matthew Goodheart, Irene Kepl, dd Kern, Christof Kurzmann, Thomas Lehn, Ava Mendoza, Seijiro Murayama, Ivan Palacký, Matija Schellander, Ingrid Schmoliner,Jaroslav Šťastný (aka Peter Graham), Miro Tóth, Michael Zerang etc.
Since 2010 he curates the musical programme of Communication Space Školská 28 which is a multifunctional space for various nonprofit cultural and artistic activities.
Since 1994 he plays as a DJ at Radio 1 in Prague (last years include the 13 raw programme), and was also a temporary student of gamelan music at Institute of Art of Indonesia in Yogyakarta (1997–1998).
